Brockweir Quay
Despite its peaceful setting today Brockweir was a small industrial and shipping centre in the 19th century. Close to the tidal limit, Brockweir Quay was a natural transhipment point with coal, copper ore and other goods transported down river.
It was also a shipbuilding centre with two yards, one below the modern bridge and one just above the quay. Most vessels were trows and similar of 60-80 ton size but also a 500-ton barquentine, the Constantine.
The remaining stone structure of the Quay visible is the last remains of what would have been an extensive quayside with many boats lined up along the length of the riverbank.
