Lower Wireworks
Site Owner: Monmouthshire County Council
Lower Wireworks, Tintern site was formerly a large industrial complex which for three centuries produced thousands of tons of wire and employed hundreds of wireworkers. It is one of a string of connected industrial sites which stretched up the Angidy Valley; the wire made here was the end result of a process which began at Abbey Tintern furnace, where the iron needed for wire-drawing was smelted.
